It’s funny how people tend to harbor so many different opinions about the police. We give our military credit for risking their lives for our safety, which is much-deserved, but we tend to overlook law enforcement officers who do the same in our cities. In my hometown, which has a population of around 8,500, most people seem to regard the police as friendly keepers of the peace. There is, of course, a faction that claims to despise law enforcement; the irony is that those who get in the most trouble also seem to be the people who call the police the most. That trend isn’t limited to socioeconomic status, either; a neighboring, upscale city practically villainizes their police department for having the gumption to enforce intoxicated driving laws.
Admittedly, I do not live in an area prone to excessive violence or crime, but there are public safety concerns for which I’m happy the local police department is able to diffuse. Despite our low and largely middle class population, over the past few years our police department has been called upon to investigate a local murder, a bomb placed at a gas station and a gun-wielding drunkard. Traffic tickets and barking dog citations, it seems, are just fillers; and though I might get miffed if I were to receive a parking ticket I’m happy that law enforcement keeps major incidents to a minimum and the community largely safe and criminal-free. In honor of the overworked, underpaid and most definitely underappreciated law enforcement officers of the world, I present 30 designs featuring the police.
