From Spider-Man and the Incredible Hulk to Captain America and the X-Men, nearly everyone in contemporary culture has been touched by the Marvel Comics enterprise in one form or another. Founder Martin Goodman probably would have never imaged back in 1939 that Marvel would grow to the $125 million business it is today, but it’s fair to say that former editor-in-chief Stan Lee has taken full advantage of his affiliation with the comics stalwart. Makes me wonder how many graphic designers have worked on the comics and how much ink has been needed to publish more than 70 year’s worth of the world’s most admired heroes and despised villains.
No matter how you look at Marvel Comics, the enterprise has inspired generations of new artists and graphic designers – and its influences can be seen on everything from today’s web cartoons to direct-mail postcards and calendars. Whether you have the first Magneto comic ever published, simply enjoy some of the latest Marvel-based movies or even if you don’t really care for men (and women) superheroes and villains in tights at all, you’ll definitely appreciate some of the following amazing Marvel Comics-inspired illustrations I’ve dug up from around the web. So put on your cape, sit back and enjoy!

I hope you plan to give equal time to DC!
Hi Jennifer – thanks for your feedback. I think I’ll have to cover DC next month – Batman, Superman, Joker and the like definitely deserve their due!
