I have harped about SEO on and off for about a year now. It is an absolute necessity if you ever want to have any sales through your Web site. One of the first steps is to prepare your site to be located by Google and the other search engines. There are four areas of special note that you need to be aware of.

Title tags

Keep this field short – less than 60 characters. Remember that this will show up on the SERPS page. State the main function of your site in a way that will attract customers, but not confuse search engines.

Keyword use

The use of keywords throughout your text is very important to search engines. These keywords actually guide the search engines to your site. If the keywords are not relevant to the site you will not get ranked well.

Keyword density

After selecting the relevant keywords you have to be careful not to over- or underuse them. It is best to stay in the 2 to 3 percent keyword density range. Overuse will sound funny to readers and look like spam to search engines. Underuse and your ranking will suffer.

Inbound links

Quality, quality, quality. That is the most important thing to remember about inbound links. They help to establish your site as an authority in its field. They are like an online list of references.

SEO is not exactly rocket science. It is very tedious and time consuming. It is also an important aspect of marketing your business. What are your thoughts on the process?
