I don’t need to write a quick example of how erratically clustered your days are. I know what it’s like … busy, busy, busy. You’ll never make more money if you’re constantly busy. You need to simplify for profits.

Simplifying your day for profits is easier than it sounds. I’m offering a three-step process:

  1. Eliminate distractions: Whatever is keeping you from completing your paid tasks, eliminate them. Phone calls, e-mails, interruptions, noise, anything that stops you from getting your job done needs to go. If you must interact, schedule two hours at the end of the day for all interactions. Your important work will be done by then.
  2. Delegate tasks: What are you doing that takes time but not talent (at least, not your specific talent, the talent you were hired to use)? Whether it’s scheduling meetings, copying documents or balancing books, if you can delegate simple time-consuming tasks you’ll have more time to work on your job and will therefore make more money, assuming you pay your help less per hour than you make.
  3. Take on high-paying projects: Would you rather design 30 logos at $50 apiece or one logo at $1,500? Enough said.

When you cut out everything that is bogging your day down, you free time to make more money and — more importantly — you free time to live your life.

What suggestions can you toss over the fire?
