How to print your own birth announcement cards

December 27, 2009

Few things in life are as exciting as announcing the birth of your baby. Your baby is your own – completely unique in every way. So why waste your opportunity to celebrate with family and friends by sending completely unoriginal, generic store-bought birth announcement cards? Here's how to print your own unique birth announcement cards for about the same price you'd pay at the cash register.

Take your photo – You have several options here, beginning with the baby photo that was probably taken at the hospital or birthing center where your baby was born. Or, you could take a family photo to announce your new bundle of joy. Design and tweak – Load your photo into your favorite photo editing program, be it Photoshop or Open Office Writer. Add your announcement text and you're done – or, go crazy and add props, filters, shadows, borders, and other tweaks to add a touch of class or personality to your birth announcement cards. Print – Choose from a variety of paper stocks (I like 14-point gloss cover), finishes (folding and UV coating), and sizes (the bigger the better!) and have a professional printing company such as PsPrint handle the printing for you. Professional printing offers several benefits: complete originality, no hassles for you, and baby album quality that commemorates the special occasion for decades. Send – You can send your birth announcement cards yourself, but in the aftermath of childbirth it can be a trying chore for both mother and father to address, stamp and send them. For the ultimate in convenience, have your printing company handle the mailing for you as well. The extra time you get to spend enjoying your newborn baby is worth any additional expense. Once you create your own birth announcement cards, send me a link – I'd love to see the original design you come up with!
