How to design your own holiday cards (even if you’re not a designer)

November 26, 2018

Making your own holiday cards is one of the coolest things you can do to celebrate the holiday, and you don’t even need to be a designer to do it. In fact, you can design your own holiday cards online fast and easy with the following tips.

1. Choose your holiday card theme

Decide whether you want to print holiday cards featuring a traditional holiday scene, a fun and modern motif, or even your own photos.

Ideas include:

  • Vintage Christmas Hanukkah or Kwanzaa designs
  • Christmas trees, wreaths, and ornaments
  • Family photos and pictures of the kids
  • Fun holiday-themed cartoons and caricatures
  • Your children’s artwork (scan it in and upload it as an image)
  • Snowy landscapes

You don’t need to know exactly how you want your custom holiday cards to look just yet; you simply need an idea for the message you want to convey.

It’s also a good idea to decide which type of holiday card you want to print. Folded holiday card printing is perfect for a traditional look, while flat holiday card printing lends a modern appeal.

2. Choose a free holiday card template

Now that you know what themes you’re interested in, you can browse the PsPrint design library for free holiday card templates. Find one that matches your theme, then choose your favorite color scheme. These templates are professionally designed, but leave plenty of room for customization so you can make your own design with just a few clicks.

Many different themes and colors are available, from fun and funny to vintage Christmas scenes and more. The free holiday card templates make it easy to upload your own photos, too.

And, if you want to showcase your kids’ artwork, you can simply scan it in and upload it as an image to a blank card template or any of the free professional templates.

3. Customize your holiday card

You have a template and color scheme; now, all you need to do is customize it however you’d like. Open your selected template in PsPrint’s free design tool, then:

  • Upload your own photos (or artwork)
  • Add your custom text (you can even choose your favorite fonts and colors)
  • Point, click and drag design elements around the card until your design matches your vision

When you’re done creating your own holiday cards, you can download a free PDF to see exactly how your design will look in the hands of your recipients. Share it with family and friends to get feedback and come back to tweak your design whenever you want.
