Top 10 Red Cross Posters of All Time

March 29, 2011

A noble institution, the American Red Cross has been responding to emergencies worldwide since it was founded by Clara Barton in 1881. Whenever you turn on the news to see the devastation left in the wake of hurricanes, earthquakes, floods, and other disasters you know the Red Cross is there helping people survive the most dire of hours. As a globally deployed organization, the Red Cross must have many, many resources: not only does it need the funds and equipment to provide support services, it needs volunteers on the front lines giving much-needed blood for emergency procedures back home. The Red Cross is certainly resourceful; not only has it managed to be highly effective emergency response organization for more than 140 years, it has been able to attract and maintain the many volunteers needed to do so. Which means the organization has had to market. One of the Red Cross' most notable marketing tools has been its posters; I would venture a guess that not one of us reached adulthood without seeing at least one Red Cross poster. You could probably even pick a Red Cross poster out of so many others if put to task – that's how highly recognizable Red Cross posters are. March is Red Cross Month, so let's take a look at some of the most powerful poster designs the world of nonprofit marketing has ever seen: the top 10 Red Cross posters of all time. Good job on the 10 best. I kind-of-like the 1919 Howard Chandler Christy poster with Nancy May Palmer. Lots of color with the flag and her outfit. I have one in my office. Do you have any idea what it would be worth these days? Thanks, Don

Thanks Don! No, I'm sorry but I don't have any idea what something like that would be worth. Maybe check with a qualified appraiser?
