Top 10 NBA Logos

LeBron's big decision has finally settled in our (upset?) stomachs, and the league's best historical free agent class has transformed the landscape for next year's NBA season. The NBA isn't just home to basketball superstars – it's also home to graphic design superstars who have created some of the best logos in all of professional sports. The following details my top 10 picks for the bests logos in the NBA. Feel free to debate at will. 10. Oklahoma City Thunder The Thunder logo might have the most modern appeal in the entire NBA, with large 2.0-world text and bright, sweeping angles. 9. Indiana Pacers It's no secret that I love letter-based logos, so the Pacer's fusion of a round basketball inside a “P” seems clean, slick and memorable to me. 8. Chicago Bulls I don't think the Bulls' logo has changed since Michael Jordan showed today's generation how to play basketball, and I think that's simply awesome. Tradition is golden in the Windy City. 7. San Antonio Spurs The Spurs logo creatively uses the “U” in “Spurs” to make, well, a spur. Simple concept, awesome design. 6 Phoenix Suns Looking at this logo makes me feel as though I'm basking in Arizona's sweet, warm sunlight. 5. Orlando Magic Yet another basketball logo with a basketball as its focal point, the Magic logo is set apart by a lightning bolt sprinkled with stars - magic! 4. Philadelphia 76ers Another city steeped in tradition, the 76ers logo harkens images of the American Revolution and the spirit of Americana. 3. Houston Rockets The Rockets last makeover transformed their logo into the ultimate letter-based design – an “R” that looks like a rocket taking off from the launch pad. 2. Miami Heat This logo is simple in concept, easy to remember and really, really hot. It would be difficult to mistake the name of this team just by viewing the logo, 1. Boston Celtics Everyone recognizes the Celtics logo. Enough said. I don't usually go for complicated logos, but in terms of brand power it is hard to argue with the Celtics. Sorry Lakers fans, but you get enough press as it is!

No love for the new Warriors logo? The comments are harsh, but I like the retro feel.

Jennifer,

Oh yeah, I dig the retro look of the Warriors logo. Just not as much as the others... let's call it #11 on my list! :)

Thanks for the link!

Wow,I admire The Heat! They are the most talented team in the NBA! We will never see another 3 headed monsterteam like this again! Go Bosh!

And I even picked the Heat's logo a week after "The Decision"! :) Truth be told, I think they'll probably finish in the league the same way they finished on my list - at #2.

I'd ask the same as Jennifer but with the new Nets logo. Voters over at this list of the coolest basketball logos made it #1. Not saying I necessarily agree--the classic Celtics logo will always be my favorite--but I'd definitely put it above the Suns and the Pacers.

Jesse,

The new Nets logo is pretty sweet! Had I seen it when I originally made this post, I definitely would have included it in my list. Thanks for commenting!
