Patriotic marketing – be honest to your fellow Americans

June 17, 2009

american_flag1I hate it when marketers lie. It gives the rest of us a bad name. It's un-American, and eventually it will get you into trouble. Recent economic events serve as proof. When you're drafting a design, writing copy, creating ads or otherwise marketing a product or service, tell the truth. Accentuate the features and benefits, yes, but do not lie. Honest products that perform as billed will sell. Dishonest products will get a bad reputation, and eventually, they will stop selling. Negative feedback travels fast. If you're after long-term success, lying will get you nowhere. If you believe in turning a sustainable profit, if you believe in American business, and you are indeed a good American, be honest about what you can do. You'll sell more with less effort.
