Create a New Year’s party invitation template

templateWant to make some extra money with your cool designs? Consider selling New Year’s party invitations in template form. No matter how cool and inexpensive design work can be, some people still want to create things themselves. One way that you can help those creatively challenged control freaks is to help them out with a design that they can add text to themselves.

It allows them to be able to alter text at their leisure, and gives you a design that you could duplicate for sale just like larger printing companies do. Create your party invitation in a standard size through the design program of your choice. In doing so, make sure to leave plenty of room for editable text to be added later. Try to designate a certain area for the text and make sure that area is free from small distracting graphics that will blend in with text. The most important part of an invitation is to inform the potential guest where to go and when to be there; you don’t want the reader to be distracted or the text to become illegible. After the graphic is created, there are several options on how to make it into a template. I find that Microsoft Word is a universal program that everyone has. You can import your graphic into Word and create a text box over your designated area for party information placing sample text in its place to show the user where to type. Be careful about text in Microsoft Word as you set up your template. There are certain fonts that just about everyone has, but Microsoft will only work on what is installed on the user’s computer. You might have an intended font that you think would look great with your invitation, but if that user doesn’t have the font, Word will substitute it with something else. It might be a good idea to put a disclaimer about this possible text change with your template when you sell them so that the user will not be surprised if this type of substitution occurs.
