12 tips for an effective company website

June 2, 2009

You may feel a bit lost after launching your company website. This is especially true for small business's that do not have an IT guy let alone a whole department. Your biggest wonder is why you are not getting more traffic and a whole bunch of e-mails and orders.

Search engine optimization can cost you a fortune and you know that some people are able to do their own, so why can't you? Here are 12 free tips to help you get ahead with your website:

  1. Focus on a niche. You cannot be all over the map on one website.

  2. Make sure to do your keyword research before you develop any content for your site.

  3. Your website should use the main keyword on every page. Focus on five keywords per page that tightly deal with the page's topic.

  4. Content still rules the search engines. Clear, concise, well-written content makes a huge difference.

  5. Use your keywords in the meta titles.

  6. Use headings and subtitles in content. Place your keywords in both.

  7. Good information will keep customers on your site. Poor content will cause them to bounce quickly.

  8. Use your keywords in your links.

  9. Use a call to action. Also, offer something small for free to entice the sale.

  10. Make sure your website displays well in different browsers.

  11. Create fresh content that has your personality. Also, update your content from time to time.

  12. Instant success is rare: 99 percent of successful websites had to be around for a few years to turn a good profit.

Keep these things in mind when you are designing or reworking you website and you should be successful in the Google page rankings as well as with other search engines.
