Cool arts and crafts that keep the creativity flowing

imageI think all artists are just really big kids. Sure, we can make some really sophisticated stuff with typography and complicated gradient mesh; but deep down inside, I think that every great artist worth his or her salt gets an 8-year-old superhero feeling inside when we see something that we envisioned in our minds come to life through sheer creativity. There is no other feeling like it.

But sometimes doing work for big corporations with heavy guidelines and financial negotiations can squash our little 8-year-old and drain that creative juice. When that happens to me, I find that doing arts and crafts can be a great pick-me-up. It’s a way to get that child-like wonder back by putting your hands to a different medium than you’re used to. Working with raw materials such as metal, paint, clay and yarn can stoke those fires and bring that 8-year-old back to life. Here are some great arts and crafts ideas: • Jewelry making • Knitting/crocheting • Ceramics • Finger painting • Quilting • Soap/candle making • Papier mache • Model airplanes /ship in a bottle • Scrap booking • Origami • Tie-dye What do you think? What kind of arts and crafts do you like to do to keep the creative juices flowing?
