Cloud commuting is a fairly new term — an upgrade if you will — for outsourcing. Outsourcing has suffered a bum rap from people whose perception is company owners laying everybody off to start again with a call center overseas. Enterprising business owners have been outsourcing work for years. In fact, if you look up “capitalism” you will find the “division of labor” right next to “global domination.”
Every red-blooded opportunist uses cloud commuting to offer the best-quality products and services in the most cost-effective manner. That is how brand after brand has dominated their competition for millennia. Cloud commuting is all about finding people who specialize in the work that you need done for the lowest price possible without sacrificing quality. If that guy is in the U.S., he's hired. If she is in India, she has a job. That is the bottom line, literally. I am expected to sell a product for the same price as a foreign company, and I have to be able to make a profit also. This is the only true solution to staying competitive. In this time of recession my business plan is being touted as a work of genius by the people who vilified me a year ago. Imagine that. What are your thoughts on cloud commuting and the general trend towards outsourcing?
