Valentine's Day is about one month away. The illustrators at Hallmark Cards have been cranking out fuzzy bears and baby-faced cupids for months now. What have you done to prepare for Valentine's Day? V-day is a good holiday for graphic designers to release limited-edition greeting cards for their client base or friends and family. These cards will be a welcome treat to recipients and help promote your design business as well. To design a cool, hip, somewhat outlandish Valentine's Day card, take inspiration from these 14 offbeat card designs below:

Great card for graphic designers. Love the pixelated die cuts on the front. Designed by Gemma Graingers. [Image via Behance.net]

Now that's what I call a good use of the greeting cards' fold. The card designer, Roman Alvarado, based this illustrated card on the true story of St. Valentine. St. Valentine was caught marrying couples against the wishes of the Roman emperor, and he was beheaded. [Image via www.romanalvarado.com]

This one makes me laugh. The corn background is so unromantic and yet so hilarious and amazing. Valentine's Day is always a good day for absurd jokes. [Image and design via Earmark's store on Etsy.com]

Pair this card with the word search wrapping paper we featured back in December for the perfect Valentine's gift presentation! Designed by New North Press. [Image via www.blog.vintageprincess.co.uk] Snarky and dark, this laser-cut Valentine is perfect for those with a wicked sense of humor (or if you really want all your stuff back from your ex). Re-create this look and feel with a custom die-cut greeting card. [Design and image via owlyshadowpuppets on Etsy.com]

Great old-timey illustration and great pun. [Design and image via www.abcddesign.com]

The inside of this card says "you can invade my space anytime." [Design and Image via anemoneletterpress' store on Etsy.com] A cute hand gun with a heart-flag is a surprising item to see on a Valentine's Day card. Designed by Lark Press. [Image via www.papergirlpdx.wordpress.com] HTML insiders and web designer will appreciate this one because it makes code cute! [Design and image via Dingbat Press on Etsy.com] A kinky Valentine's rap card is always popular with the ladies. Designed by Kuro. [Image via www.coolhunting.com] I love you sounds so amazing in French. Bonus points for the cute French bulldog illustration. [Design and image via sycamorestreetpress' store on Etsy.com] I am Love, hear me Roar. I like the cute use of the LOL-cat style "Rowr," too. ]Image via www.luxepaperie.com] Use a die-cut to perforate four mini Valentine's cards out of one postcard. The kraft matte stock make the greetings feel warm, and the creatures and copy fit perfectly together.  [Design and image via delphineSTUDIO's Etsy.com store] The pieces on this card pop-out and form a sculpture! Love the space invader one!

Inner web-design geek also loves the HTML code valentine, and because I am a typomaniac especially enjoy the classic twist of kerning u and i closer together. Inside of card could say if U and I were any closer, we'd be a ligature!
