When Comedy and Art Collide

It’s said that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, and when it comes to comedy, impersonations are a standard. So when 100 artists took to canvas to create their interpretations of comedians, it resulted in an exhibit that honored those folks who’ve made us laugh throughout the years. “Is This Thing On?” ends its run at Gallery 1988 in Los Angeles this weekend, but the original artwork and prints from the show are online. Meanwhile, to get a dose of humor in person, you still have a week left to check out SF Sketchfest in San Francisco. The annual festival, of which PsPrint is an official sponsor, features comedians famous and up-and-coming doing everything from stand-up to Q&As to improv. I caught Neil Patrick Harris interviewing Brian Henson of Muppets fame this past weekend at Cobb’s Comedy Club, and I’m hoping to see – for my first time! – “True Stories” at the Castro Theatre, with David Byrne in person for the movie’s 25th anniversary. Want to know who else is participating in Sketchfest? Here’s a sample of the art in the “Is This Thing On?” exhibit.
