New input equals new experiences. I’m always on the hunt for new experiences, new materials and new ideas to replenish the well. Recently I visited my local corrugated box manufacturer.
Believe it or not, I had to ship a 70-pound child’s peddle tractor and needed a heavy duty box. The box manufacturer has a showroom — yep, a showroom. The variety of paper products that they produced was amazing. Everything from mailing tubes to custom die-cut mailing boxes. They had boxes with handles and boxes with windows, colored boxes, small boxes and, of course, boxes big enough to ship a toy tractor. I walked away with several ideas for direct-mail pieces and a self-promotional piece.
Most box manufacturers will let you buy their products in small quantities if you are picking it up. In other words, if they don’t have to deliver it. Some manufacturers will even give you a single sample for free.
So what’s the moral of the story? Never ship a 70-pound toy tractor … No. Be curious and explore.
